STUDYING WATER BORNE DISEASE OUTBREAK AND PREVENTING MEASURES IN TAFAWA BALEWA LGA OF BAUCHI STATE

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out to study Water Borne Disease Outbreak And Preventing Measures In Tafawa Balewa Lga Of Bauchi State. Specifically, the study assessed the prevalence and distribution of waterborne diseases in Tafawa Balewa LGA, Bauchi State, examine the socio-economic factors contributing to waterborne diseases in Tafawa Balewa LGA, evaluate the existing water infrastructure and sanitation practices in Tafawa Balewa LGA, and develop and propose effective preventive measures for waterborne diseases in Tafawa Balewa LGA. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. Questionnaire was used for data collection which was raised against a five Likert scale of Strongly Agree(SA), Agree(A), Undecided(U), Disagree(D), and Strongly Disagree(SD), and was analysed using the frequency counts and percentages. A total of 400 respondents were conveniently selected as sample size comprising of residents of Tafawa Balewa LGA, Bauchi State. Out of the 400 respondents, 394 responses were validated from the survey. Health Belief Model. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that the prevalence of waterborne diseases is significantly associated with specific geographical areas within Tafawa Balewa LGA., and that the quality of water sources is significantly correlated with the prevalence of waterborne diseases in Tafawa Balewa LGA. On the basis of these findings, it was recommended that given the high frequency of waterborne diseases reported by residents of Tafawa Balewa LGA, Bauchi State, The government should prioritize the development and implementation of community health education programs. These programs should focus on raising awareness about waterborne diseases, their transmission pathways, and the importance of adopting preventive measures.
